Furthermore, as black men were gaining new rights, the only reason homosexuals began escaping the death penalty and castration was that Americans began perceiving it as a “disease”. At no time were they even tolerated, let alone accepted. Today, years after Blacks won the right to not be discriminated against in the workplace, it is still legal in most of the country to fire a person for being gay. Generations after protections for blacks were written into the Constitution we are faced with states across America writing anti-gay bigotry into their constitutions.
